IBM Support; IBM ServerGuide Setup and Installation CD v9.41 for Windows Server 2008, 2003 - IBM BladeCenter and System x. Can anyone explain me how to install windows server standard 2008 32bit with sata/sas 6gb/s hdd in IBM System X-3620. During the installation, the os cannot detect.

I am repurposing my IBM xSeries 346 server, and trying to install Windows 2003 Standard. It had this on it once before and ran for five years with no problem. The ServerGuide CD runs perfectly. I can go through the entire setup with no trouble, including configuring RAID and copying the OS files. My trouble starts at the reboot when it's time to do the actual OS setup. It's as if the system doesn't see the boot disk (or partition) as a valid boot option.

It eventually tries to boot off the network, then fails. System has 16GB RAM, and 6x146GB HDDs. ServeRAID sees all the disks and I can configure them any way I see fit. I've tried both RAID1E (what I want) and RAID5 (because that's what worked before and I wanted to test if it would again.

My guess is that the RAID controller (ServeRAID 7) is no longer configured properly as I added 4 disks to fully utilize the server and perhaps didn't build it right, but I'm stuck. I've tried every permutation of configurations I can. Hopefully this is something simple and I'm just not seeing it.

Thanks everyone:). Its been a few years since I last touched one of these system. But make sure that the boot device is pointing to the raid card. It should take about 20 minutes to boot into the bios (just kidding but it will seem that way). If I remember correctly you could change what was the focus of the boot. If you can boot off of cdrom you could use something like BartPE to boot the system (this is a maintenance tool).

If you can see the hard drives in bartpe then your raid controller is setup ok, then I would focus on the boot device order. Also make sure you are running the. Wreck It Ralph 720p Indowebster on this page. I got frustrated and tried just using the Windows Server CD with the intention to load the RAID drivers and try it that way.

Didn't even have to do that. Setup found the drive, formatted, installed, and booted with no problems.

I didn't do anything different, apart from NOT using the ServerGuide CD. I did check on the boot order as per your suggestion (I'm pretty sure you were on a good track with that one), I tried several different options, but with no luck. I was pretty sure the RAID stuff was OK because I could configure arrays and logical drives without any issue. As for now, Windows is up and running. Thanks for taking a look. It's appreciated.
